Ace Handyman Services is Your Go-To for Home Repairs, Remodels and More
By: Karen L. Dortschy
Dave Wigfield can be called a “jack of all trades” but he’s the master of many. From small house repairs, like replacing a ceiling fan to large remodels and more, Dave and his team have expertise, experience and a solid foundation of customer satisfaction.
Dave has been a passionate home repair and renovation fan for many years and decided to refocus his career two years ago after leaving the corporate world, where he was involved with international travel sales and representing large corporations. Dave and his family lived for eight years in Brussels and London, then returned to New York to begin a search on where they wanted to put down their final roots. They chose the Lake Norman area and moved here in YEAR.
Once they relocated here, Dave wanted to get into a local community business where he could make a direct impact and focus more on his family. He bought the Handyman Matters franchise for Lake Norman last summer, and in the fall, Ace Hardware acquired the national franchise organization. That has been great, as Ace Hardware is one of the most well-respected businesses in the home industry, and Dave is able to utilize their resources to market, promote and build his business. In fact, Ace Handyman Services won the coveted “America’s Best Customer Service” award two years in a row from Newsweek magazine, in 2019 and 2020.
Ace Handyman Services provides helpful service and information regarding maintaining, improving and remodeling homes to retain and increase their value. The philosophy of the business is simple, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Dave focuses his team and the business on doing the right thing for customers in a mutually beneficial relationship. He and his team show up when they say they will, do the work as promised, and focus on exceeding the customer's expectations.
Dave is inspired most by watching his team of professionals delight their clients, while building on their skills. He is proud to provide a steady job for them, even through this unprecedented time with the pandemic, so they are able to support their own families.
One of his businesses most unique projects was a secret storm cellar room with a hidden closet entrance from the first floor, but their range of services is from the small (repairing a lighting switch) to whole-house remodels. “We get so many unique requests to fix, build and renovate,” said David. “It’s an adventure every day!”
Dave and Joan live off Tuscarora Trail on the lake with their dogs, Scout and Tootsie. Their 23-year-old son Nicholas graduated from Lake Norman High School and UNC Chapel Hill and is involved in the technology industry with a start-up company in the Midwest. Their 20-year-old daughter Annie, also a graduate of Lake Norman High School, recently moved to Huntersville to pursue a career in animal health and is involved in the local community.
Ace Handyman Services is committed to the Mooresville and Lake Norman community, and Team members volunteer at the Ada Jenkins Center, and they are always looking to give back to veterans and now folks hard hit by Covid-19. “We are blessed to live in such a unique region with great people, weather and beautiful scenery, with proximity to the ocean and mountains all held together with a healthy growing Charlotte City center. Lake Norman is our passion!” said Dave. Dave is also involved in real estate sales with Lake Country Properties, which is a great complement to Ace Handyman Services. “I have helped numerous customers with repairing and improving their homes so they could sell more quickly,” Dave said. “As a real estate agent, I can suggest to my customers which are the most cost-effective repairs to do and which have the most impact.”
When he is not out estimating projects or supervising his professional team, you’ll often find Dave and Joan boating on the lake in their Classic Antique 1935 Utility runabout or playing golf at the Mooresville Golf Course. When you see him, tell him you read about him in this magazine!
