Trending Away From "Do It Yourself"

The trend away from "Do It Yourself" (DIY) towards "Do It for Me" (DFM) in various industries, including home services and renovations, has been influenced by several factors. While DIY has its merits, the DFM approach has gained traction due to changing consumer preferences, lifestyle shifts, and the increasing complexity of projects. Here are some reasons to consider hiring a professional home repair and maintenance company like Ace Handyman Services Bloomfield the next time you have projects to complete around your home.

Complexity of Projects: Many modern home improvement and renovation projects have become increasingly complex and specialized. Homeowners may lack the time, skills, or knowledge to complete these projects effectively on their own, leading them to seek professional help.

Time Constraints: Busy lifestyles and work commitments leave people with limited time for DIY projects. Hiring professionals allows homeowners to delegate tasks and save time.

Convenience and Efficiency: DFM services provide convenience by handling every aspect of a project, from planning and execution to cleanup. This minimizes the hassle for homeowners and ensures efficient completion.

Quality Assurance: Professionals bring expertise and experience to the table, ensuring a higher level of quality, safety, and compliance with regulations. Homeowners value the peace of mind that comes with knowing the project is in capable hands.

Cost-Effectiveness: While some DIY projects can save money, others may end up costing more due to mistakes, rework, and the need for specialized tools. DFM services often offer competitive pricing and can deliver better value by avoiding potential pitfalls.

Access to Resources: DFM providers have access to a wide range of tools, materials, and technologies that may not be readily available to DIY enthusiasts.

Warranty and Guarantees
: Professional services like Ace Handyman Services offer warranties or guarantees on their work, providing homeowners with recourse in case of any issues or defects.

Aging Population: As the population ages, there's an increasing need for home modifications and maintenance that may be physically demanding or require specialized knowledge. Many seniors prefer to hire professionals to ensure their homes remain safe and comfortable.

DIY Skill Gap: Not everyone possesses the skills required for DIY projects, especially as technology advances and projects become more technical. People are more willing to entrust experts with tasks they feel unqualified to handle.

Specialized Services: DFM providers offer a range of specialized services that cater to specific needs, such as aging-in-place modifications, energy-efficient upgrades, and smart home installations.

Ace Handyman Services Bloomfield is extremely committed to serving our customers and helping them love their homes. All our Craftsmen are multi-skilled, insured, bonded and background checked.

Signs You Need To Repair Your Fence

Fences are necessary for the privacy and security of one’s home. These are some signs your wood fence may need a repair or replacement:

Sinking or Slanting  When a fence is slanted, it is unable to do its purpose of providing privacy. The slanting will only worsen over time from weather and other conditions. The post of a fence is the portion that is connected to the ground. When the paneling has sunken, moisture from the ground can seep into the fence.

Splintering Wood  Splintering wood can indicate more serious problems in the fence. Splintering occurs when the fence receives moisture and is unable to dry out properly. It can be an indication of wood rot from moisture, causing the fence to deteriorate.

Discoloration  A fence becomes discolored from sun exposure, chipping paint, wood rot, or rusting from fasteners. Change in color is a sign that the fence is aging, meaning it may be losing its strength. The fence can be repainted if chipping occurs, to improve the aesthetics of the fence.

Pest Damage  Once a pest infestation starts, it may spread to the rest of the fence as well. The most obvious sign of pest infestation is visible insects crawling on the wood or critters often near your fence. Some more subtle signs include risen or swollen parts of the boards that signal insects, or bite and scratch marks which signal critters.

Eco-Friendly Bathrooms

Designing an eco-friendly bathroom is a wonderful way to reduce environmental impact and create a healthier living space. While your bathroom should be a luxurious experience, it can also be greener. Here are some tips for an eco-friendly bathroom design.

Install low-flow fixtures Low-flow toilets, showerheads and faucets are designed to conserve water, reducing water usage and utility bills. You can buy them at any Ace Hardware or online, and they're easy to switch out without the help of a plumber.

Use natural materials Choose renewable and sustainably sourced materials, such as bamboo, reclaimed wood and recycled glass. These materials can also add visual interest to your design style as you create a luxury spa look by incorporating them.

Choose nontoxic materials Use nontoxic materials for flooring, wall treatments and countertops. Look for products free from volatile organic compounds and other harmful chemicals. By reducing your use of these items, you also create a healthier home for you and your family.

Opt for energy-efficient lighting Install LED lighting or other energy-efficient bulbs to reduce electricity usage and save money on utility bills. Energy-efficient bulbs last longer, so you're less likely to spend money replacing them. They also produce better lighting for performing your daily bathroom routines.

Natural cleaning products Choose natural and nontoxic cleaning products to keep your bathroom clean and avoid harmful chemicals. Natural cleaning products are no longer hard to find; you can buy them at your local Ace Hardware.

Need help with any installations  You can always call Ace Handyman Services Bloomfield for any installation or updates to help make your bathroom eco-friendly.

Fencing Needs?

Fencing is not only a practical way to keep your children and pets safe, but it can also clearly mark your property lines and increase your home’s overall value. Fences can also help dampen noise from nearby neighbors and heavy traffic, give your landscaping structure, and are ideal for mounting birdhouses, planters, and stringing lights.

While most fences are built to last for years, accidents, foul weather, and wear and tear can cause damage that requires repair. When your fence has damage, it is best to call a professional to get the job done. Our professionals are the ones to call when you need fence installation services or fence repairs.

Which Ramp Is The Right Ramp For You?

When deciding which kind of ramp you should purchase to help someone with a disability safely get in or out of a home, these are some of the factors you should think about.

How much ramp is needed? When trying to figure out how much ramp you need for you home, you need to know how many inches high are your steps. The American with Disabilities Act states that for every one inch of height, there must be 1 foot of ramp. So if you stairs are 24 inches high, you would need 24 feet of ramp

Price: When comparing the prices of a wood ramp versus an aluminum ramp. The wood ramp would usually cost anywhere from $3,500-$8,000 on top of the man hours needed to build. While aluminum ramp would cost about $3,000-$5,500.

Time: On average a wood ramp would take about 2 days to 1 week to build depending on the size of the ramp and the weather. The aluminum ramp takes only a fraction of that time; it can be done in less than a day.

Maintenance: Both ramps are going to need maintenance at some point just like anything would. The wood ramp would have to be clean regularly and must reapply a stain or sealing product. Aluminum on the other had is very durable and would not have to be replaced for several years.

Traction: Wood itself can be quiet slippery when it becomes wet which can be a danger for someone in a wheelchair. Traction pads can be added to the wood but this would cost an extra amount of time and money. On the aluminum ramps the traction is built into the aluminum that allow the wheels to safely move and not slide.

Inclement Weather: As you know, Maryland weather is very unpredictable and can cause all sorts of problems. In cases of snow or ice normal rock salts should not be used on wood or metal ramps, a cost effective way to fix this problem is using kitty litter to help with the traction of the ramp. Aluminum ramps will be more durable to the weather and stay safe while wood ramps become slippery in the snow or ice.

Modular or Portable: This is mainly for a preference as it depends on how long you would like to have the ramp in place. Once a wooded ramp is built, there is no taking it down without destroying the ramp, so they are meant to be a long-term ramp. Aluminum ramps can be moved or collapsed to be stored away for when they are not needed, they also can be left out for as long as they are needed. This allows for easier movement of the ramp if it is only needed a few times a year.

A new year is upon us… phew! To get a fresh start, get organized and clear out anything you don’t need anymore, make your home more peaceful, and set yourself up for an awesome year.

Clean Out that Junk Drawer

Yes, we all have one or even several of them. Maybe it’s your bathroom cabinet that’s a mess, the hall closet, or that drawer in the kitchen you can barely open. Empty the space completely and throw away any trash and unused items. Sort items in boxes, bins or use dividers—you can even bust out the label maker you’ve been waiting to use!

Declutter your Desk or Workspace

Whether you’re working from home or in an office, clean and organize your workspace. This will help you feel more productive and accomplished while working. Go through all your paperwork and throw away or shred documents you do not need. Refresh all your pens, scissors, tape, paper clips, etc. Install shelves so you can fully utilize your desk and create a perfect space to store and organize your work.  Not only will a refreshed and organized workspace help make you more productive, but having a comfortable, new office space might be a great work-attitude adjustment, too!

Organize your Garage

You may have to dedicate a weekend day for this task, but it sure will make the difference you need for the New Year. Pull everything out that’s in the way and create zones for items that can be trashed or recycled. Then think vertical—putting in some cabinets and overhead storage are all options to getting a clutter-free zone. Put your least-used items on the top shelves and store items you want easy access to in the middle, so you have easy access. And when you’re done, you may actually have room to park your car – what a concept!

If you’d like some assistance in installing storage, shelves and creating vertical organization, your local Ace Handyman Services of Bloomfield is always willing to step in and make your dream a reality of becoming more organized in 2023.

Transform Your Kitchen Today on a Budget

The kitchen is arguably the most crucial room in the house. It's where your family and guests gather all the time. If you want to make over your kitchen and not spend a ton of money here's a few ways to spruce thing up.

Install open shelving

Open shelves are one of the many ways you can resolve adding more storage and style to your kitchen. There may be spots under current cabinets, over your refrigerator or on an empty wall where you can install shelves and store things that look good on display.

Consider paint

The easiest thing to do in any room to refresh it on a budget is paint. Choose a new color or neutral tone that will make you happy again in your kitchen. Painting is relatively easy to do on your own and doesn't have to cost much money.

Update your backsplash

Maybe your backsplash needs a refresh. It could be outdated tile, a color you don't love or wallpaper that’s dingy. There are plenty of new options for back splashes, including peel-and-stick tiles that have the look and feel of the real thing or interesting paneled textures that are easy to clean and durable.

Add new lighting

Something as simple as replacing your light fixtures can give you a brand new look. New options are available that offer LED lights that can better illuminate your workstations. Or you can install something with a completely different look and feel than what you had before.

Upgrade your faucets and fixtures

Faucets and other fixtures are an easy fix too. Choose a different finish to create a whole new look. Get techie and add touchless faucets or soap dispensers. Replace the handles on your cabinets. Change out your light switch covers to something more decorative. You can also replace some of your countertop appliances to fit your new look.

No matter what you want to do on your budget Ace Handyman Services of Bloomfield can help!

Routine Maintenance is Easy IF You Do it Regularly

These easily forgotten tasks are often looming in your mind, so you put them off. Why? Because you might think they're difficult or time consuming - you might not realize how simple they can be. Routine home maintenance is not like housework or chores. It's a deliberate set of tasks that you perform, at a cadence that is frequent enough to keep the work light, and to keep home systems running smoothly. Think of it like mowing your lawn. If done weekly, it requires little effort, and the lawn stays healthy. But if you wait for several weeks between mowing, it's hard work, time consuming and the health of the lawn suffers.

Organize Tasks by Frequency

Some household tasks need to be performed monthly, some are seasonal, and some need attention just once a year. This blog focuses on the monthly tasks and getting them on a calendar so throughout the year you can complete them with certainty and ease. Our next blog will focus on seasonal and annual tasks. Like a workout, it's often more difficult in your mind, and once you are in it, the satisfaction of getting it done makes it all worth it.

Let's Get Started

1. Inspect (and possibly change out) your HVAC filters: 4 minutes

It is recommended to change your filters as much as monthly, however that frequency is based on several factors. Some of these factors to consider for your situation; Number of people in the home, active lifestyles of those occupants, number and type of pets, allergies, your neighborhood and its environment (construction nearby, metropolitan activities...), weather and time of year all play critical roles in the frequency. Having said all of that, you should change your filters at least quarterly -every three months/four times a year.

(NOTE: If you have high sensitivity to allergies, dust, dander or sinus challenges, change them out monthly, regardless of visible discoloration.)

Multi-Craftsmen Pro Tip: Write the date you installed the filter with a marker on the cardboard edge of the filter.  It takes the guesswork out of the "last time" it was changed.

If the filter has any visible dirt, change it out. If you can see contaminants at all, it is probably dirtier than you think, so it is time to change it. If not, slip it back in place and inspect it again next month. Filters are inexpensive and simple to change and can extend the life of your furnace when changed promptly, so if in question, why not just preplace it. You can find them here at Ace Hardware.

Ignored, dirty HVAC filters result in: The need for more expensive annual HVAC maintenance from professionals.
  • Higher utility bills from increased heating or AC cycles.
  • Wear and tear on fan motor working harder than designed (which of course leads to a costly repair).
Multi-Craftsmen Pro Tip: It is cheaper and makes life easier to buy a multi-pack of the correct size.  Use one today and set the rest aside for future months.  It is also helpful to keep the filter size recorded so you can quickly find the correct size when it is time to buy them.  Filters are sized with 3 numbers (LxWxH - Length, Width and Thickness) example 20x12x1. Once you have the right size, then it's easy to work with an Ace Hardware Red Vested Hero to make the right choice for your home.

2. Clean kitchen sink disposal and wash the rubber baffle splash guard: 3 minutes

There are many suggested ways to clean the kitchen disposal, here's a DIY hack:
  • Pour ice into your disposal
  • Then, turn on the disposal and pour some white vinegar (available at your local grocery store)
  • It freshens and cleans it your disposal quickly and one gallon of vinegar can clean your disposal over four or five months.
With a wand type small scrub brush, run it up and down each baffle on the splash guard.  Using the bristles of the brush to pull the flaps up (turning the baffle inside out inside of the drain) so that you can scrub the underside of the baffle as well as the visible side. That helps keep it clean and eliminate smells. It's simple!

Inspire yourself to do this every month to keep your kitchen fresh and your primary surfaces food safe.

3. Clean range hood filters: 7 minutes

Cleaning the range hood filter is a task that commonly gets put on the back burner (no pun intended). Simply use a degreaser mixed with hot water. Let the filter sit for a few minutes, rinse it off, and it should be clean as a whistle.
  • Pull out the filter from the range hood
  • Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from scalding water and run your water until it's steaming hot and begin to fill the sink. Or boil a pot of water
  • Pour in the recommended amount of degreaser per the volume of water in your sink. Click here to get our recommended degreaser from Ace Hardware.
  • Let it stay submerged for five minutes - if it's been a while since you have cleaned the filters, grab them with your gloved hands and agitate them like clothes in a washer to remove caked-on grease. (Using a soft bristle brush with gentle strokes is helpful too.)
  • Drain the sink and rinse the filters and shake the water out
  • Replace them over your stove
Inspire yourself to do this often while it’s easy – if you wait, a simple job will become a major labor as the grease layers on. And layered on grease is a major fire hazard (172,900 fires a year originate in the kitchen in the US).

4. Inspect your fire extinguisher(s): 3 minutes

Make sure you have your extinguishers easily accessible in all the proper locations. This is your most simple task, but it might be the most important - make sure:
  • The gauge shows adequate pressure.
  • They are not expired (All have an expiration date on the side.)
  • They have no visible signs of wear and tear.
Multi-Craftsmen Pro Tip: Make sure they are mounted securely to the wall or cabinet, yet easily removed in case of emergency needs.  Also, make sure that everyone in your home knows where they are AND how to properly use them.

If you need more information on fire extinguishers, how to use or best places to have them in your home, click here to revisit our Fire Safety Blog for where to place them, and greater detail on the right extinguisher for the right area of your home. Reliable and effective extinguishers can be easily sourced at Ace Hardware by clicking here.

Inspire yourself to check this monthly knowing that you are doing something vital prevent a catastrophic event in your home - you might be surprised, on your monthly check, to find an extinguisher missing (between family members "borrowing them for camping trips" to kids "playing with them," they might not be present when needed!)

February Fixes for a Warmer Winter

Spring might be around the corner, but February can still bring plenty of cold winter weather in Michigan. Some of the harshest of the season, so that makes this month the perfect time to freshen up some of those indoor tasks before warmer ends.

So, we've created a handy checklist of home maintenance tasks to freshen up a chilly February. And if you’re struggling to muster up the energy to tackle these chores, we've provided tips for how to do them faster and easier—or with the help of a pro.

Spiff up the paint

Task:
Freshen indoor paint on walls, cabinets, doors, and trim.
Shortcuts:
Sometimes a once-over with a Magic Eraser sponge will remove marks and smudges, reducing the need for a paint job. If that won’t cut it—and you need to paint indoors in February—stir a tablespoon of clear vanilla extract into the paint can to make the smell less noxious. And if you have trouble removing painter’s tape from furniture or walls, heat it briefly with a hair dryer.

Redo the laundry room

Task:
Clean and reorganize your laundry room so it’s roomier and more efficient. Scrape dried-on laundry detergent from ridges in your washer, replace damaged sorting bins, throw away laundry products you never use, and store the rest in out-of-reach places to protect young ones.
Shortcuts:
Take advantage of every square inch of laundry room space. If you don’t have room for a drying rack, extend a curtain rod over your machines to hang delicate clothes, and insert a “slim cart” between your washer and dryer to hold cleaning supplies. Also, try storing bins, buckets, and laundry bags on wall hooks to free up space.

Clean dryer vents

Task:
Clean the duct that connects the back of your dryer to outside vents. If you don’t, lint and other debris could decrease your dryer’s efficiency, increase energy bills, and even cause fires. Also, make sure birds and other animals haven’t made a home in your warm and toasty vent.
Shortcuts:
Twice a year, use a leaf blower to remove lint and debris from ducts. Also, cover the outside vents with a fine mesh screen so birds and bugs don’t nest in ducts.

Clean refrigerator coils

Task:
To keep your refrigerator in tiptop shape and save energy, clean the refrigerator condenser coils located in the back or on the bottom of the appliance.
Shortcuts:
Use a vacuum to clean coils. While you’re at it, vacuum the floor under and behind the fridge, too. Then, shove a duster or refrigerator coil brush (about $5 from Ace Hardware) between the coils, and clean the rest of the dust, hair, and dirt still clinging to the coils.

Clean your sump pump

Task:
Clean out your sump pump pit and make sure the sump pump is working in February to prepare for the increase in groundwater that spring rains will cause.
Shortcuts:
Test the pump by adding water to the pit, and confirm the pump ejects water as it’s designed to. Just be sure to replace the pit cover after confirming the pump works. Also, make sure nothing obstructs the sump pump pipe, which drains water to the outside of your home.

Flip your mattress

Task:
Vacuum box springs and the mattress top and bottom. Rotate or flip the mattress.
Shortcuts:
If you have a one-sided mattress—one side is padded; the other isn’t—don’t bother flipping; just rotate it to provide even aging. If you have a two-sided mattress, flip every two months to prevent sags.

Holiday Indoor Fixes

As the temperature starts to drop it's a clear sign the holidays are right around the corner. With it comes wonderful times with family and friends gathered in your home for delicious food and warm memories. But before company arrives, you may want to spruce up your living space a bit. Below are a few ways to create some new, bold statements for your home that will make it look more inviting for the season.

Paint Accent Wall or Room

An easy way to add dramatic flair and a touch of elegance to your home is by painting a wall an accent color. Adding a pop of color to a select wall in your room creates a simple, yet exciting upgrade that will make a big impact.

Uncertain about selecting the color that will show your room to its best effect? Head to the Ace Hardware website and take advantage of The Paint Studio, a terrific tool that takes the guess work out of picking the perfect color. This is a paint visualizer that enables you to test a selection of tones by simply uploading a photo of the room you’d like to paint, and then exploring how a variety of different colors would look in your home.

Tip from our Craftsman: There are a variety of bold color options, but if that seems a little overwhelming to you, consider a slight hue adjustment on one wall. By staying in the same color wheel and changing the shade a tone or two, you'll give the room a subtle depth that the brain will appreciate, but the eye won’t particularly notice.

Too busy with other holiday preparations to tackle the job yourself? Then give Ace Handyman Services of Bloomfield a call @ 248-406-4989, and our Multi-Skilled Craftsmen will complete your accent wall project before your guests arrive. Whether it’s a simple paint project or you have some nail holes, drywall, trim or caulking in need of repair, we can help.

And remember
: We are always here to make your holiday prep easy.

Fix Doorknobs and Handles

Loose or outdated doorknobs and handles are something all homeowners must deal with at some point in time.

There are two ways to think about upgrades. The first is function - making the current hardware work. The second is taking function to a new level of upgraded design and delight - replacing the old, outdated hardware with doorknobs and handles that are more contemporary and will enhance the look of your home.

Fixing and tighten TRADITIONAL doorknobs

Basic and most mid-level handles typically have two exposed screws on either side of the interior handle – all you need is a narrow-shaft Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the handle.

Tip from our Craftsman: Move back and forth between each screw as you tighten, for best results.

Fixing and tighten HIGHER END doorknobs

•Remove the current knob or handle.

• To do so, find the set screw (or small push button), which is normally found on the side of the inside door handle and, using an Allen wrench (or small flat screwdriver), loosen the screw (or push the pin) and remove the handle by pulling it toward you.

• Once the handle is removed, you will need to remove the escutcheon plate.

Tip from our Craftsman: Remove the plate carefully with a flathead screwdriver, taking care to avoid damaging the back plate.

• After you remove the base, you should see a set of screws. Carefully hold on to the outside backing plate to keep it from moving, tighten each screw separately.

• Last, put the base and handle back on together, making sure each piece is flush and every screw is secure.

After following these steps, if you're still having trouble, or if you have many pieces of new hardware you'd like installed, give Ace Handyman Services of Bloomfield a call @ 248-406-4989 – we can absolutely help you with that.

Upgrade Doorknobs and Handles

Although doors don't seem like they'd make a huge difference to the aesthetic of your home, they are one of the most predominant features. When you update the look of your doors and their knobs, you are upgrading major surfaces that are on display to you and your guests all the time.

Take a look at some great options your local Ace Hardware offers to replace outdated doorknobs and handles.

Tip from our Craftsman: If you are changing the color of the handle (for example, from a brass to a bronze), you might consider changing out the hinges so that all the hardware matches and will pop with your new look!

Bathroom Your Refresh

During the holiday season, one of the most visited rooms is going to be the guest bathroom. A full bathroom remodel takes a lot of time, work and money, not to mention how frustrating it is to have a long project disrupt your life. So, rather than adding stress to the end of the year, here are a few simple ways to give this room a refresh that make a big impact.

Update the Sink
An outdated sink will tarnish the look of your bathroom. Luckily, a few cosmetic changes can give it a new life. For example, if you have a ceramic sink in an aged pastel color, call a Craftsman to drop in a new bowl with a fresh white finish. For an additional touch, have him paint your vanity a bold new shade to add a beautiful contrast to your bathroom.

New Fixtures
A new set of lighting fixtures will add a level of detail that you will appreciate every day. Lights aren't the only fixtures you can upgrade-swap out your faucets, towel bars and other fixtures for something that reflects your style.

Accent Tile
Replacing the tile in your bathroom can be costly and time-consuming. Instead, opt to add accent tiles. Place them in the shower or over the sink.

Our Multi-Skilled Craftsmen can complete this job in a short amount of time, giving you an impressive, new-looking bathroom just in time for the holidays.

Don't let the prospect of a full remodel discourage you. Creating a bathroom you're proud of is just a few upgrades away. So, what are you waiting for?

Some Organizational Hacks You’ll Love

The first step to loving your home is organization. It’s easy for clutter to pile up but taking control of your space is the first step to loving your home even more.

The following are 5 tips to get you started.

1. Make a Plan

Before you start any organization in your home, make a plan to help you see the final vision. Many homeowners simply start going through their stuff without conceptualizing how it will all go back into the space. We suggest making a list or even a map that will help you know how much space you have and how to use it in the best way.

2. Clean as You Go

If you’re taking things out of a room, storage area, or off shelves, don’t start putting anything back until you thoroughly clean the space. This means dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting and thoroughly deep cleaning. Many people will skip this step, which defeats the entire purpose of organizing the area into more usable space.

3. Use Labels Labels help keep things organized once your space is put back together. Labels can be used in closets to help you identify boxes of items stored away, such as seasonal clothes, or even in a pantry so you know exactly where specific food items are kept. Labeling prevents you from throwing unrelated items in the same bins.

4. See What You Have Along with labels, you also should use bins that allow you to see what you have. Clear bins, easily available at organizational stores, will help you keep things neat if you can see what you have at a glance. You won’t have to go through boxes to find out whether you need more of something — you can see what is inside without having to pull the bin off the shelf.

5. Sturdy Shelves Build some sturdy shelves in a basement or closet to handle heavier bins and maximize the space you have. This allows you to use floor to ceiling to tuck away memorabilia or seasonal items you want to keep but don’t need access to as often.

Weather-Stripping: Saving $ By Sealing Your Home.

What To Gain?

There are little hidden gaps around door frames and windows, between baseboards, floorboards and by outlets that can all let out your heating or cooling which is costing you a lot of money in the long run.

As much as 5-10% can be saved on your energy bill. On average you can save about 7.5% on your monthly payments just from sealing air leaks with weather stripping and caulking. This’ll give you at least $48-$138 extra in your pocket.

How to Fix leaks!

There are varying methods to dealing with leaks in your house: Weather stripping and caulking works very well for smaller holes. For bigger holes spray foam or other insulation will most likely have to be done.

Sadly, repairing a leak won’t last forever. Over time the insulation can start to bring in the weather, so you’ll want to take note of where gaps and leaks are likely to occur such as:
  • Around electrical outlets, boxes, or other items cut into the wall.
  • Between the wall and the floor.
  • Around plumbing as it enters a room.
  • Gaps in the attic, basement or crawl space.
  • Around the attic door.
  • Around the chimney.
  • Around built-in light fixtures, particularly on the ceiling.
  • Around windows and doors.
It's Simple

You can save money and the environment with just a couple DIY projects!
It won’t even leave a dent in your wallet as most of the materials can be bought at a hardware store for less than $30 to $50. So clear up that calendar and make some time for a weekend project and save yourself some cash!

If you believe the work is out of your skill range or you simply want to make sure the job is done right - just give us a call at 248.406.4989.We can assist you in finding where the air is escaping your house through an inspection.
