Most homes don't need a big remodel. They need someone reliable to fix the door that's falling apart, the toilet that won't stop running, or the soft spot on the deck. That's the work Ace Handyman Services Long Beach does every week for homeowners in Long Beach, Lakewood, and nearby communities.
Instead of telling you what a handyman can do, here's what our craftsmen actually did on a few recent jobs.
Replacing a worn-out back door in Long Beach
This Long Beach homeowner's back door was cracked and had worn through at the bottom around the old pet door. The frame itself was still in good shape, so there was no reason to tear it out.

Our craftsman fitted a new half-glass door slab to the existing frame, cut the hinge mortises, bored it for the lockset and deadbolt, and installed a new pet door close to the size of the old one plus a new bottom sweep. The door was then primed and painted to match the house.

Keeping the original frame meant less disruption to the wall and trim around it, and a quicker job overall.
When the bottom of an entry door starts to go
On another recent job, a set of double entry doors had damage right where the doors meet the ground. The base of the jambs needed repair on both sides, and the wood threshold had worn down against the stone step.

We repaired the jamb bases and the threshold, sealed the threshold to the step, and added a new trim piece at the base of the jamb on the inside of the home.

If you can see daylight under your door, feel a draft, or notice wood that looks dark or soft near the bottom, it's worth having it looked at before water gets further in.
The small fix that stops a running toilet
A toilet that keeps running or refills on its own usually has a worn flapper, the rubber seal at the bottom of the tank. On a recent visit we replaced the flappers on two toilets in one home.

It's a small job, and that's fine. We'd rather you call about a running toilet than live with it, and it's easy to add a few other items to the same visit.
A deck that felt soft in one spot
A homeowner noticed one area of their composite deck dipping underfoot. When we lifted those boards, the old wood framing underneath had broken down.

We installed new framing under that section and put the original boards back, so the repair matches the rest of the deck.

What kinds of jobs should you call a handyman for?
A good rule of thumb: if it's a repair, a maintenance item, or a small project that doesn't need a full contractor, a handyman is usually the right call. Our team handles carpentry, doors and trim, drywall, fences and gates, deck repairs, painting, and general home repairs. Many customers keep a running list and have us take care of several items in one visit.
