Ace Handyman Services Coastal Orange County is a residential handyman service for homeowners in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, and nearby coastal communities. Our craftsmen take care of the repairs that build up around a house: doors that stick or leak, decks that feel soft, fixtures that run, trim that's worn out. Most of these jobs are too small for a general contractor and too important to keep putting off.
Here are four homes we worked on recently, and what each job shows about the kind of work a good handyman should handle.
A deck that dipped underfoot in Huntington Beach
The homeowner noticed one section of their composite deck giving a little every time someone walked across it. The boards looked fine from above. Once we lifted that section, the cause was clear: the old wood framing underneath had broken down.

New framing went in under that area, and the original boards were reinstalled so the repair blends in with the rest of the deck. No full rebuild needed.

If part of your deck feels bouncy or soft, the framing is usually the first thing to check.
Threshold and jamb repair on double entry doors in Newport Beach
Entry doors take a beating, especially at the bottom where water, sand, and foot traffic all meet. On this set of double doors, the base of the jambs on both sides needed repair, and the wood threshold had worn down where it met the stone step.

Our craftsman repaired the jamb bases and the threshold, sealed the threshold to the step, and fitted a new trim piece at the base of the jamb on the inside.

Gaps and soft wood at a threshold are easy to ignore, but they let water and drafts in and tend to get worse with every season.
A running toilet fixed in Newport Beach
Not every job is a big one. Here we replaced the flappers on two toilets. The flapper is the rubber seal at the bottom of the tank, and when it wears out the toilet keeps running or refills on its own. It's a small part, but a running toilet wastes water around the clock.

We're happy to take on quick fixes like this, and many homeowners bundle a few small items into one visit.
An exterior door replaced, pet door included
This back door was cracked and worn through at the bottom around the old pet door.

We replaced it with a new half-glass door slab fitted to the existing frame. The slab was mortised for hinges, bored for the lockset and deadbolt, and fitted with a new pet door of similar size and a new bottom sweep. Then it was primed and painted to match the home.

Reusing the existing frame kept the job simpler than a full door and frame replacement.
