Door Repair & Installation in Raleigh & The Greater Triangle
Common door problems in Triangle homes
If you live in the Raleigh area, your doors have to deal with conditions that wear them out faster than in drier or cooler climates. Here's what we see most often:
The sticking door that gets worse every summer. North Carolina humidity swings 40-60% between winter and summer, and wood doors expand and contract with it. Most "sticking door" problems aren't actually the door, they're the frame, the hinges, or settling around the jamb. A real fix means identifying which one, not just planing the door edge until it falls apart.
Frame rot at the threshold. Storm-driven rain hits exterior door bottoms hard in the Triangle, and the threshold is the first thing to go. By the time you can see the rot, the framing behind it is often compromised too. We replace the rotted wood properly not just caulk over
it.
Settling cracks in new construction. Homes in Knightdale, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, and Wendell Falls built in the last 5-10 years frequently develop alignment issues as the house settles. Doors that hung perfectly when you moved in start binding at the top corner or dragging on the threshold. The fix is usually adjusting the hinges or shimming the frame, not replacing the door.
Old wooden doors in ITB Raleigh homes. Inside-the-Beltline homes in Five Points, Hayes Barton, and the Cameron Village area often have original mid-century doors that are worth keeping. We restore those by re-hanging, re-finishing, or replacing hardware rather than ripping them out for a builder-grade replacement.
Storm and security damage. Triangle thunderstorms, hurricane season debris, and the occasional kicked-in door from an emergency response all require fast turnaround. We handle same-day door security repairs whenever scheduling allows.
Door services we provide
Door repair
Sticking doors, alignment issues, hinge problems, latches that won't catch, doors that swing open on their own. Most of these are fixable in under an hour without replacing anything. We diagnose the real cause before recommending parts.
Door frame and jamb repair
Frame rot, split jambs, damaged strike plates, settled framing. This is where North Carolina's humidity and termite-prone wood show up most. We replace damaged framing properly and re-set the door so it fits squarely.
Door hardware: locks, knobs, handles, hinges
Replacement and upgrade of all door hardware. Modern deadbolt installation, smart lock installation, kickplate and bumper installation, handle set swaps. We can shop for standard hardware available same day and can install customer-supplied premium fixtures.
Weatherstripping, seals, and thresholds
The trim around your door is doing real work. Worn weatherstripping costs you energy, lets water in, and creates the gap that lets dust and pollen blanket your entryway. We replace weatherstripping, door sweeps, and thresholds, often as part of a single service visit.
Glass replacement and sidelights
Cracked door glass, fogged insulated panes, damaged sidelights, decorative glass inserts. We replace door glass and sidelight panels with manufacturer-matched units where possible, or sourced alternatives where the original is no longer available.
Door types we install and replace
★★★★★
"They replaced our rotted French door and the new one is perfectly aligned, better than the original."
Communicative, flexible, and high quality. I was able to select and purchase the door myself, no problem. The craftsmen clearly defined what they were going to do and finished ahead of the estimate. They also gave helpful advice on maintenance and things to look out for. They're probably not the cheapest on the block but the professionalism and quality of the work speaks for itself.

Entry doors, interior doors, storm doors, screen doors, sliding doors, French doors, patio doors, and pet doors. We can install a door you've purchased or guide you through selecting one. For multi-door projects (e.g., refreshing every interior door at once), we'll often take photos and measurements during a smaller initial visit so we can quote the full project accurately without a separate trip.
★★★★★
"Chandler did a very nice job installing a dog door in a tricky location."
He arrived on time and did a thorough clean up. He cut into the drywall with precision and accuracy. Thank you!

Full door replacement
When repair isn't the right call, when the frame is too damaged, door beyond restoration, or it's time for a curb-appeal upgrade, we handle full replacement. Most exterior replacements finish in 4-6 hours; interior doors typically install in 1-2 hours each. Bundling multiple services or tasks in the same create efficencies allowing us to get more done and save our customers money long term.

How pricing works
We're time-and-material based: we estimate the scope over the phone and bill for the actual time the work takes plus materials. No flat-rate buffer padding.
For door projects specifically:
- Simple repairs (sticking door, hardware swap, weatherstripping replacement) typically run 1-2 hours
- Frame and threshold repair typically runs 2-4 hours depending on rot extent
- Single exterior door replacement typically runs 4-6 hours including disposal of the old door
- Multi-door projects (e.g., all six interior doors in a hallway) get a phone estimate based on count and scope, with on-site refinement after the first door
If you're juggling several door issues, share them all up front. We often handle a multi-door visit in one trip with one minimum rather than three separate appointments.

Frequently asked questions
How much does door installation cost?
Most exterior door replacements run a few hundred dollars in labor plus the cost of the door itself. Interior doors are less. Because we bill time-and-material, the final cost depends on what we find during install, settled framing, hidden rot, hardware mismatches. We give you a phone estimate before scheduling, and our craftsmen will let you know on-site if anything changes the original estimate before they proceed.
Do you fix sticking doors or only replace them?
We fix far more doors than we replace. A sticking door is usually a hinge, frame, or settling issue, not the door itself. We diagnose the real cause first. Replacement is recommended only when the door is genuinely beyond fixing.
Do you replace door frames and jambs?
Yes. Frame and jamb work is one of our most common door services in the Triangle, because humidity and storm-driven rain wear out exterior door frames faster than the doors themselves.
Can you replace the glass in my door or sidelights?
Yes. We replace door glass inserts, sidelight panels, and decorative glass.
Do you install smart locks?
Yes. We install most consumer smart lock brands (August, Schlage Encode, Yale, Level, etc.) and can also install traditional deadbolts and handle sets. If you have a specific brand in mind, mention it during your phone estimate so we can plan accordingly.
How quickly can you get to me?
Most non-emergency door projects schedule within 3-7 business days. Storm damage, broken doors, or security issues get same-day response when our schedule allows.

Do you handle storm doors, screen doors, and pet doors?
Yes, all common door types. Storm, screen door installation, sliding patio doors, and pet doors.
What about garage doors?
We handle the carpentry and framing around garage doors but don't service the garage door mechanism itself (springs, openers, tracks). Those need a specialized garage door company, give us a call and we'll be happy to refer you to a local company that we know will take great care of you.
Door problem you've been putting off?
1,000+ door projects completed across the Triangle since 2022. 12-month workmanship warranty. Background-checked, W-2 employed craftsmen.
